HomeWaterproofing
Waterproofing
under every tile.
Two coats on the substrate and another membrane over the screed, on every shower we build. It is the part you never see once the tiles are down.
Two layers of
waterproofing.
We waterproof the substrate, lay the sand and cement screed, then waterproof the top of the screed as well. It is why we have never had a leak.
From the bottom up, it goes:
- Waterproofing, first coat
- Waterproofing, second coat
- Tile glue or cement slurry
- Sand & cement screed
- Membrane on top of the screed
- Tile glue, tile, silicone
Done by the same people
who tile it.
Leaks often start where one trade hands over to the next. We do the waterproofing and the tiling ourselves, so the membrane, the falls to the waste and the tiles are all our work and all our responsibility. Wet areas are built to the Australian standard, AS 3740.
Common questions.
Where does waterproofing go?
Showers, bathroom floors, the walls around a bath, and laundry floors. All of these are wet areas under AS 3740.
Why waterproof the screed as well?
The screed sits between the membrane and the tile and holds water if any gets through the grout. A second membrane on top of it keeps that water at the surface, where it can run to the waste.
Can you fix a leaking shower?
A shower that leaks usually needs the tiles up and the waterproofing done again. Call us to talk it through and we can come and look.
Which areas do you cover?
Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. We are based in Jewells.
